Gustav Klimt, an Austrian symbolist painter and a prominent member of the Vienna Sezession* movement, is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches, and other objets d'art, once said, "Art is a line around your thoughts." While his primary subject was the female body as he alleged that "All Art is erotic," he also painted allegories and portraits as well as landscapes. His Art was most influenced by Japanese art and its methods. Much of his work is represented with elegant gold leaf or colored decorations, adding spirals, swirls, and phallic shapes to conceal the more sexually explicit drawings.
