George Orwell: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.

A couple days ago I read a quote on Stephen King's Twitter feed: “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. George Orwell.” And as much as I am trying to keep my blog apolitical, I figured that George Orwell would make the perfect choice to discuss in my Artist of the Week column. Because let’s face it, Orwell's Animal Farm pretty describes the current state of mind of some of the ruling minions and their entourage.

George Orwell was born Eric Arthur Blair in Motihari, Bihar, British India in 1903. He left for Dorset, England, with his mother in 1904 and would live there until his move to Shiplake, Oxfordshire before the first world war. As a journalist, novelist, essayist, and well-versed critic, his work details an awareness of social injustice, outspoken opposition to totalitarianism, as well as his total support of democratic socialism.
